Baychester, the Bronx- An accident last night on the New England Thruway left a mother dead and her daughter injured, according to officials.

Police say at approximately 11:30 PM, the mother, and her daughter were driving in a GMC Envoy—approaching exit 11, near Baychester Ave—when a vehicle entered the lane they were traveling in and moved in front of the mother’s SUV.

The vehicle’s maneuver caused the mother to lose control, and her SUV hit an embankment—the SUV then overturned and the mother was partially ejected, according to police.

Police stated that the mother—who has since been identified as 44-year-old Michelle Muccio of the Bronx—was pronounced dead at the scene; the woman’s 16-year-old daughter was removed from the wreckage by firefighters and transported to Jacobi Hospital where she is listed as stable, according to officials.

The vehicle that swerved in front of the mother’s SUV left the scene and is currently being sought by the police, the NYPD said.

As of this afternoon, authorities have not provided a description of the vehicle.
