Elderly woman killed crossing the street in Woodside

Woodside, Queens- An elderly woman was killed this afternoon while attempting to cross the street, according to authorities.

Police say they responded to the intersection of Woodside Ave. and 57th St. at approximately 2:20 PM after receiving reports of a person hit by a vehicle.

Upon arrival, police discovered that a Toyota Highlander had struck an 83-year-old woman.

EMS responded and pronounced her dead at the scene, according to police officials.

Preliminary information suggests that the woman was crossing 57th St. when the driver of the Toyota made a right turn onto the street from Woodside Ave. and struck her, according to police.

Right now, it is unclear if the police suspect the driver of any negligence.

Police stated that the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
