Rockaway Beach, Queens- Early Saturday morning, a crash on Shorefront Parkway left several cars mangled and caused four people to be brought to the hospital, according to officials.
Emergency personnel responded to a collision with reports of people trapped just before 6 AM near Beach 94 Street.
Upon arrival, firefighters and police found two vehicles overturned and people pinned inside of them. Firefighters extricated three people from a 2016 Acura SUV, and one man from a 2014 Ford Mustang.
All four people were transported by EMS to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition, according to FDNY officials.
Investigators believe the accident occurred when the driver of the Mustang traveling eastbound on Shorefront Parkway suddenly lost control of his vehicle and smashed into the Acura SUV, causing the SUV to flip onto its top, according to police officials.
The 29-year-old male driver of the Mustang was later charged with driving while intoxicated, according to police.
In addition to hitting the Acura, the alleged drunk driver also smashed into several unoccupied parked cars and a telephone pole.
