Off-duty NYPD officer shoots himself in the chest

Williamsburg, Brooklyn- This morning,  an off-duty NYPD police officer reportedly shot himself inside a car.

The incident happened just after 11 AM, near the intersection of Wythe Ave and Williamsburg St. West, according to police officials.

When responding officers arrived on the scene, they found the off-duty officer inside a Honda Accord with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Police say preliminary information suggests that the wound was self-inflicted.

The wounded officer was taken to Elmhurst Hospital where police said he is in stable condition.

Police did not immediately release the wounded officer’s name and said the investigation is ongoing.
