Randall Manor, Staten Island- Early this afternoon a speeding car smashed into a tree, ripping the car into pieces and ejecting a passenger.
Police say the collision occurred just before 1 PM near the intersection of Lois Place and Henderson Avenue.
When officers arrived on scene, they found the driver of a 2003 Acura TL—a 20-year-old male—pinned in the wreckage.
In front of the Acura was a 21-year-old male who had been ejected from a passenger seat. He was lying unconscious on the ground with severe head and body trauma, according to police.
EMS transported both men to Richmond University Medical Center where the 21-year-old is listed in critical condition and 20-year-old driver is stable.
Police say their preliminary investigation revealed that the Acura was moving at a high rate of speed westbound on Henderson Avenue when the driver suddenly lost control and swerved backward—hitting the tree and ejecting the passenger.
There are no arrests and the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.
