Harlem, Manhattan- A woman died early this morning after being hit by a car while trying to crossing the street.
Police say they responded to a 911 call for a person hit by a car just after midnight. When they arrived on the scene, they found a 61-year-old woman lying in the roadway. She was transported by EMS to St. Luke’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The vehicle that hit the woman is believed to be a silver sedan. It was traveling northbound on Adam Clayton Powell when it struck the woman who was trying to cross W. 113th Street, according to police.
Authorities say that the driver fled the scene after hitting the woman.
Police later identified the victim as Mercedes Dearmas.
The NYPD Collision Squad is investigating. As of this morning, no arrests have been made.
