Chappaqua, Westchester (NY)- At approximately 2:15 PM on January 3 2018, firefighters and police responded to the Clintons’ residence at 15 Old House lane after a small fire broke out on the second floor of a garage adjacent to their house.

The Clintons’ communication director, Nick Merrill, wrote on Twitter that the garage is where the Secret Service stay while protecting the property. According to Merill, the Clintons were not home during the incident.

In a statement to NBCNEWS NY, the Secret Service said that their agents put out the fire with fire extinguishers and then called 911 as a precautionary measure.

Firefighters checked the structure to make sure the fire had been completely been extinguished. They deemed the situation under control and emergency personnel began to leave the scene around 4 PM.

The cause of the fire remains unclear.
