7- Alarm fire in the Bronx leaves almost two dozen injured

Red Neck, the Bronx- Early Tuesday morning, there was a large fire in the Bronx that left almost two dozen injured and required hundreds of firefighters to respond to the scene.

The fire broke out around 5:30 AM in a furniture store at 1574 Commonwealth Avenue and then spread to apartments above it.

FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro stated at a press conference that seven children were injured, four of them suffering life-threatening injuries.

An additional 16 people, including one firefighter, suffered minor injuries.

All victims were transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.

Due to the size of the building, the low temperatures and the fire having multiple hotspots, a large response was required to get it under control.

More than 200 firefighters were on scene to help fight the blaze, according to the FDNY.

Fire investigators are still determining the cause of the fire but it does not appear to be suspicious.
