Deadly blaze kills 12 in the Bronx

Belmont, the Bronx- Tonight a deadly blazed ripped through a five-story apartment building killing 12 people and leaving several clinging to life.

Just before 7:00 PM, the FDNY received calls for a fire in a building at 2363 Prospect Ave.   Fighters arrived on scene three minutes later and found the first floor of the building engulfed in flames.

According to FDNY officials, the fire quickly spread from the first floor and into the ones above it. An hour later, the fire had become a fourth alarm and officials said more than 160 firefighters were on scene. The blaze was deemed under control just before 10 PM.

Daniel Nigro, the FDNY Commissioner, stated that victims were found on all floors of the building. The youngest victim of the twelve who died was a 1-year-old infant. The other eleven were all adults under the age of 50.

Additionally, there are currently four people in the hospital in critical condition.

The FDNY said that the cause of the fire is under investigation.
