SoHo, Manhattan-Tourists were in for quite the New York experience today when scaffolding came crashing down in a heavily trafficked area of SoHo. A large crowd looked on as FDNY and NYPD personnel rushed to free one person that was trapped under debris.

According to FDNY officials, the incident occurred just before 12:00 PM at the corner of Broadway and Prince St. Officials stated that 5 people were injured and transported to Bellevue Hospital. One person’s injuries were serious but not critical; the other four all sustained minor injures.

A witness who saw the incident unfold said that wind played a role, although this has not been confirmed. As of early this afternoon, officials have not made any comment on what may have caused the scaffolding to collapse.
