Chelsea, Manhattan- A man was seriously injured after falling at a construction site near the corner of West 28 Street and 6th Avenue. The incident occurred at 8 AM this morning. After the call came in, emergency service workers were on scene within minutes.
Initially, there were conflicting reports about how the man was injured. Some witnesses and callers to 911 said that the man could have been hit by falling debris, while others stated that it looked like he hit the ground after falling from either a crane or an upper floor at the site. The FDNY chief on scene finally confirmed that it had definitely been a fall and not debris.
The witnesses that our reporter briefly spoke to said they did not see the incident occur however they saw the man on the ground afterwards and it did not look like he was moving. FDNY officials stated that the man was in serious condition and being bought to Bellevue Hospital.
An investigation is ongoing right now.
UPDATE: The NY Post reported later in the day that witnesses claimed to have seen the man at the top of the building taking pictures and then jumping. The Post also confirmed that man had died at Bellevue. You can read their further reporting here.
Witnesses were not named or filmed on camera because they wanted their privacy respected.
