SoHo, Manhattan- Several teens were arrested today after they reportedly stole items from an H & M store and then fled into a subway station, the NYPD said.
At approximately 2:10 p.m., a 911 caller reported a theft at the H&M store on Broadway between Spring St. and Broome St. The caller stated that a group of teen males and one female had come into the store, stolen merchandise and then fled down Broadway, according to police radio transmissions.
Several minutes later, an MTA R train conductor reported seeing a black male on the southbound tracks between Prince and Canal Streets. As a result, a southbound R train at Prince St. was held in the station until police could arrive and clear the scene.
When patrol officers arrived at the Prince St. stop, they saw a small group of teens and immediately took them into custody.
Across the street from the subway entrance, two young males were in handcuffs, standing next to a large group of officers.
Before the teens were placed in a patrol car to be transported to the 5th Precinct, officers stored several large H & M bags in the trunk of the car—it appears these bags may have contained some of the merchandise stolen from the store.
Police did not immediately state what charges the teens will face.
Note: The faces of the two youths in custody are blurred to protect their identity.
